Avalon Fishing Pier

Pier Magic

Dan Waters or Dan Beauvais invite you to photograph silhouettes of fishermen, the waves as they hit the pilings, shells with the reflection of the sunrise on the waters surface, soft ghostlike waves when photographed with long exposures, the sun as it streams through the pilings of the pier, and go on to the pier to photograph fishermen and their catch. Learn how to photograph a sunrise, how to get the best exposure, what white balance to use, and how to make the most of foreground objects. Take a short stroll along the seaside to look for shorebirds, sea oats, and sand fence to photograph.

Manteo Waterfront

Peaceful Sentinel

Join Outer Banks photographer Dan Waters or Dan Beauvais for a Sunrise Photography Workshop at  the beautiful Manteo waterfront on Roanoke Island. Capture the incredible colors just before sunrise and witness the stillness as the harbor starts a new day. The waterfront offers the gorgeous bay, a lighthouse, a faithful reproduction of the 16th century ship that brought the first permanent English settlers the the New World, a rustic flag-lined bridge, a waterfront gazebo, a boat building museum, a settlers’museum, quaint buildings and shops, piers, docked boats, marshes, and more than a mile of waterfront boardwalk.

A highlight of this sunrise workshop is photographing Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse with the light still on. The reflections of the light in the water with the sunrise behind it is magical.

Wanchese Harbor

Buoys Will Be Buoys

Outer Banks Photo Workshops would like to invite you to attend sunrise photo workshops at Wanchese Harbor. Wanchese is named after the last known ruler of the Native American tribe found on Roanoke Island by the English colonists in the 16th century. Photographic opportunities abound in this quaint  working fishing village on the South end of Roanoke Island. There are pelicans, colorful buoys, old fishing trawler’s, dilapidated buildings, and the discarded junk that can be found at most fishing villages. The Sun comes up over the harbor and through the nets of the fishing trawler’s which makes for some wonderful photographic opportunities. It is also a great place for picking out details, stacked up crab baskets, fishing nets, and colorful buoys.

Jockey’s Ridge

Sunset Sand Dune

Outer Banks Photo Workshops and Salty Paws Biscuits present a Sunset Photography Workshop on Jockey’s Ridge, led by Dan Waters or Dan Beauvais. Climb to the highest point on the Outer Banks and the largest sand dune on the east coast, Jockey’s Ridge. Overlook both the Atlantic Ocean and Roanoke Sound. Explore the photo opportunities of the sculpted patterns in the ever-shifting sand. Capture the spirit of flight as you photograph hang gliders and kite fliers. Finish the evening with the potential for a gorgeous sunset over the sound, and several minutes of colorful afterglow.
