I was out riding the ATV looking for turtle nests last Wednesday and I came across a resting loon. He let me get close which surprised me because when they are in the water they seem skittish. I thought maybe he was hurt, but after about 20 min. he gave out a couple low calls then turned and pushed himself back out into the water and swam away as if nothing had happened. It was a pretty exciting morning for me to be able to photograph such a magnificent bird.
