Blue Fin Puddle

When it’s raining photographers put their cameras away, but the rain creates unique photo opportunities. If you can get out to photograph just after a rain, it’s easy to turn a puddle into a lake. The puddle in the shot was about 4 feet long and 2 1/2 feet wide, even though it’s small in size it creates a big reflection. All you do to get this effect is put a wide angle lens, (with a small aperture, so everything’s focus) down at the edge of the water. I used a plastic bag to rest the camera on so it wouldn’t get too dirty. It’s best to focus about one third of the way into the image in order to maximize the depth of field.

This shot was taken of a fishing trawler in Wanchese on Roanoke Island, NC. I was there teaching a photo workshop and noticed this unique opportunity to capture an unusual view of the harbor.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my work, I appreciate it.
